CRADLE ME

My cousin, Timmy, was lost at sea in that first vicious storm of Winter outside of Barkley Sound on the west coast of Vancouver Island. Luckily his body washed ashore as some of the fisherman on that coast are never found. His wife and kids, sisters and brother and, of course, his Mum and Dad were devastated. I pictured him singing to his family as a ghost."When you are on your own, know that you are not alone." This song captures for me the light and softness of a Banfield fog.

lyrics

Cradle Me

When the storms of December
Howl and crash around Cape Beale
Remember crying like a baby and feel
Low, empty, and a little bit lonely

Walk alone on the back beach
Talking to the sea and me
I’ll be there tugging at your jacket and your hair
Yeah, I’ll tease you just like I used to do.

So Cradle Me

When the storms of December
Break the headland into dust
Remember everything we’ve done will rust. Rust.
But I love you is the only thing that ever shines through.
Shines on through.

Chorus

So Cradle me
(When you on your own, know that you are not alone)
